Peer Review?

Be like Creepy Editor... give specific feedback
On Wednesday, we'll be conducting our PEER REVIEW session. Before we jump into that, let's explore what peer review is by watching this video.

Then, get into your peer review groups.

1. Read the first person's essay aloud to the group (either the author or any other group member can read it, y'all decide).
2. Discuss the partner's essay based on your comments
3. Lather, rinse, repeat! :-)

You're looking at roughly 10 minutes of discussion/reading per paper.

Before you leave today, please turn in the following questions for your revision plan:

1. What did you learn were the strengths of your essay?
2. What areas still need improvement?
3. What revisions to you plan to make moving forward and why?

Remember, your revisions are due on FRIDAY, so you'll need to begin making them right away!

For extra credit:

How did your group peer review session go today? How might we, as a class, improve our peer review sessions looking forward to the future? Post your responses on the blog's comment section.

  1. Well my group peer review went understandful for the whole team as we learned some of our weaknesses and strengths. Reading each others paper does help to understand writing in different ways and writing a criteria tellsnyou what to do for next time

  2. i think my peer review went better that expected for my group, we were all open minded to the considerations each suggested. i think to improve it when we review each others paper at home we can write on the paper the suggestions that way its a little easier to understand.

  3. Todays peer review was good. I got feedback that I can use for the next step in my revision and it gave me a different perspective on how I could make my wrting better. I was open minded about everything my peers had to tell me and gained alot through this experience. I cant see how I could make this better, except that maybe in every review we have a different group of peers giving us feedback.

  4. Looks like everyone had a pretty good experience! I'm happy to see that. Thanks for leaving some feedback, y'all.

And Silver, that's a really good point about changing up the groups. Yes, we'll be doing that next time, working with different groups to gain different perspectives. I think that's a great idea.

  5. well my session was pretty awesome, i think being able to take somebodies paper home and giving them feedback on it is better that just reading it in class, because sometimes we're afraid we'll be too mean about it, and we don't tell them how we really feel about their essay. Writing it on paper is a much better way to tell them what went wrong, and also what their strengths are.

    1. I totally agree with this, Karol. When it comes to feedback, I really don't like being "put on the spot" so to speak, to give my opinion. I know a lot of people are good at doing that, but for me, it kind of makes me nervous. I always need time to think things through and reflect, though I know not everyone is like that.

    1. That's an interesting idea, Adrian! Yeah, maybe we can try 4 to a group next time and see how it goes. I'm going to think about that one for sure. Thanks!
